2008 State of Game Development Survey Released
Results: Over 99% of developers are not John Romero.
Published: August 13, 2008
Game Developer Research finally released the results of the State of Game Development Survey, taken from over 2000 readers of Gamasutra and Game Developer Magazine. The shocking results:
• 70% make PC games, 43% make console games, and 28% make games for the internets. Only 16% make games for portable systems, meaning that we have a severe lack of people working on the next 10 Imagine: Babyz games.
• On consoles, 73% make 360 games, 58% make PS3 games, and 42% make Wii games. The PS2 still pulls in about 15%. This might have to do with Microsoft's XNA studio making 360 development easier, while PS3 coding is still a bitch, and most of the Wii games are probably shovelware anyways. The PS2 is still the place to go for JRPG fans, since that's the only console the guards will allow in their cells.
The full survey is here if you want to see it. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to masturbating on a picture of Warren Spector.
